While navigating through folders, you are not limited to the mouse. There some useful keyboard shortcuts which can help you work efficiently.
I think you already know about CTRL+X, CTRL+C and CTRL+V keyboard shortcuts. These are for cutting or copying selected items and pasting them. So you don’t need to right click and select cut, copy or paste every time.
CTRL+A selects all items. If you hold down the CTRL key and click an item using your mouse, it will be selected. If the item is already selected, it will be deselected. You can also select or deselect multiple items by holding CTRL and the left mouse button while moving the mouse.
Another way of selecting items using CTRL key is to use arrow keys. Hold down the control key, use arrow keys to highlight an item and press Space to add it to the selection.
Yet another way: Hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys and use arrow keys to select items.
Press Backspace key to go one level up. For example if you are in “C:\Program Files” folder pressing Backspace will bring you to “C:\”. If you want to go to the previous folder press ALT+Left Arrow. This will move backward to a previous view. Similarly, ALT+Right Arrow will move forward to a previous view.
If you want to display the properties of an item, select it and press ALT+Enter. This will bring its properties dialog.
TAB key moves through options and ALT+TAB switches to last used window. Press ALT+TAB once and do not release the ALT key. You will see icons of all open windows. You can press TAB key again, without releasing ALT key, to switch to another window.
There are also cool things you can do by dragging while CTRL or SHIFT keys are pressed. For example, to copy items, you can hold down the CTRL key while dragging. This will copy those items to the dragged point. To create shortcut for items, press CTRL and SHIFT keys at the same time while dragging, and this will create shortcuts at the dragged point.
Not a keyboard shortcut, but there is also another way to move or copy files, or to create shortcuts for them. Click an item using right mouse button and, drag it using the same button. This will open up a menu at the point you released the right mouse button. You can select move, copy or create shortcut from this menu.
And, as you probably know, CTRL+Z is used to undo last action and ALT+F4 is used to close current window or program.
